Steve Collins has covered government and politics for The Bristol Press since 1994. Before that, he was a reporter and columnist for six years for The Citizen, in Auburn, New York. He is co-founder of The Tattoo teen newspaper, online at www.ReadTheTattoo.com, and Youth Journalism International, a 501(c)(3) public educational charity serving young people across the globe. He has a B.A. in history from the University of Virginia. He is married and has two school-age children.

That story was edited in a way I don't quite understand. All of the curse words - even the ones that weren't terribly offensive, were taken out. That I get. Still - I wouldn't have lead with the Muddy Waters quote: "Don't let them goddamn blues die on me." if I thought they'd replace the curse word with elipses.
The stranger thing - as I'm sure you can tell from reading it - is that some things that weren't offensive were just taken out or changed for no apparent reason. I was well within my word limit, but it still got chopped a bit. Made it a bit choppy and sort of took some of the voice out of the piece.
But oh well - it was a day's writing for which I was paid, and I got to talk to Buddy Guy. Can't win 'em all.
